Why Have Children - Part One

I took this photo of my daughter, Reyna Joy, four days ago with my cell phone and saved it as my phone's wallpaper. Ever since then I've pulled out my cell phone about ten times a day when I'm at work, school, etc. just to look at my two-month-old beauty. I love her more everyday.

In a world that has gone mad, why bring precious children into it? Richard O'Ffill says he advises couples its a risk worth taking. "They're the only thing you might be able to take with you to heaven."

Think about it.

What do you call yours that won't one day burn at Christ's second coming? You can't take your car, clothes, or CDs to heaven. As my friend Thomson Paris wrote in a great post, outside of character and souls there is nothing else you can take with you.

But to be more specific, what is mine that I can take? As much as I would like to lay claim to my friends, they really don't belong to me. Therefore, the closest thing I can claim as mine is my family and that strongest claim may be made about my girl Reyna, the one I'm responsible for Biblically, morally, and legally.

So when it comes to what you call "your's" or "mine", take a risk: Have children. Love them. Teach them. Disciple them. And pray they'll be good and faithful servants of the LORD and that they'll spend eternity with you.

If I had a picture of a baby that adorable on my phone, I think I'd look at it more often as well ;)

Did you know, Ellen White says that when Jesus comes again, angels will carry babies who died to their mothers' arms? That was just something I'd read recently and your post made me think about it. Not that it had much to do with your post....

She is so precious, Anh! I regret to say I've only been able to hold her once. :(

I like the perspective: friends and family are the ones we can influence and hopefully bring to heaven with us. May God's loving influence always be felt in Reyna's life. :)

Oh! so cutie pie! kiss kiss kiss. Daddy Bo says he wants me to print a copy and mail it to him. "I'll pay you!" he keeps saying. As if he should pay for me to print a copy...funny.

Kristin: I think I read the same EGW quote. She also says that some of these babies will awaken but find their mothers missing among the saved, thus angels will have to conduct them to the tree of life. 2SM 260. Perhaps some of us will have an opportunity to be foster parents in heaven.

Kelsey: My sister, you are always welcome to hold Reyna, especially when Vanessa needs a nap. :)

Melinda: Daddy is funny. I wish he and Mommy could be here in Tennessee...I miss them and I know Reyna really loves them.

Dear friend Anh, why am I now a roadrunner? I do hope it's not a physical resemblance... ;) lol

Kelsey: My friend, you have nothing to worry about. I named you the roadrunner because I once nearly ran you over in my Honda Accord while you were out for your morning jog. Sorry, I was late for class :( I'll be more carefully in the future!

Hmm... lol. I usually jog the biology trail, and I don't recall seeing any cars on it recently... are you sure it was me?

Kelsey: I'm afraid it was you. I was burning down the little road behind the Stateside Apartments and there you were jogging my direction. I guess you were headed for the biology trail.

I noticed you on the semi-narrow road at the last second and jerked the wheel to avoid you. You kind of gave me a half-look of recognition as I mouthed "sorry".
